Online PBL Leadership Workshop:
An Overview
This workshop is a three-day intensive dive into how school leadership teams can support the conditions for Project Based Learning to thrive in their schools.
The Online Leadership Workshop is designed to help leaders launch or advance the work of Project Based Learning in their setting. In consideration of their current reality, participants design a customised strategy to implement PBL and foster a project-based mindset for teaching, learning, and leading that moves them forward along the PBLWorks’ Leadership Continuum.
Due to the collaborative nature of the workshop, participants are highly encouraged to attend as a team of three or more individuals. Both new and experienced practitioners of PBL are welcome.
What to Expect in Your Online Workshop
Plan for a highly interactive few days together! Over 3 consecutive days, participants will use Zoom to connect with the facilitator and each other. Each day is 6 hours with an additional 1 hour for lunch. Frequent breaks and opportunities for large and small group interaction and connection are built-in throughout each day. Teams are provided designated work time to tailor the work back toward their sites or districts.
Workshop Agenda
This workshop is three consecutive days. Each day’s session builds on the previous.
Day 1: Project Slice. This day demonstrates what it is like to be a learner in Project Based Learning by engaging participants in an immersive PBL experience—a “slice” of a student-facing project. The day will model the key features of the PBL process. Throughout the day, participants are encouraged to reflect on the pedagogical moves they are experiencing as PBL learners and the implications for their own leadership contexts.
Day 2: Current Reality & Desired Future . Participants will reflect on their understanding of Gold Standard PBL and how it aligns to desired student outcomes. Teams will consider their current reality and where they need to grow in order to successfully implement PBL. Each school team will determine an area of focus for their final product.
Day 3: Building the Implementation Plan . Participants will consider their school conditions and determine what additional supports or structures they need to incorporate for PBL implementation. Teams attend differentiated workshops to support their final product development. In the afternoon, each school team will present their plan for PBL implementation.
Final Product . Leadership teams will create a product to inspire positive momentum in the conditions necessary for Project Based Learning.
