What We Do

iOnTheFuture began in 2013 as a teacher education conference with 80 participants from 25 schools. In 2019 the conference grew to 900 participants from 210 schools. The event was primarily designed to champion the voice of change and to give clarity around why a change was needed. Over the years a conference was held at Carlingford West Public School, Turramurra North Public School, Banora Point High School, Lindfield Learning Village, and Banora Point Primary School.

The event was run by teachers for teachers as a not-for-profit.

From 2020 iOnTheFuture Events ceased to run the annual conference and moved to a new format of 2 and 3-Day institutes; two held in summer and one held in winter. This direction was taken as the 2020’s are not about why change is needed, but about how changes are best made to teaching practice. Thus a one-day conference was no longer fit for purpose.

Two, 3-Day institutes allow deep transformational learning for all participants. These institutes are led by the very best leaders and educators from PBLWorks. Numbers are limited to 150 for each institute; with classes of 30 max per ‘class/workshop’.

One 2-day institute delivered by EL Education past and present professional learning team members focuses on Student-Engaged Assessment and Leaders Of Their Own Learning (LOTOL). Registrations are capped at 80.

Details of these institutes are on this site. Should you wish to review past conferences, please see the hashtags #iOTF4, #iOTF5 and #iOTF6.

PBLSydney’21

Postponed to 2022

Date TBA

Delivered as an online event via Zoom Webinar and Zoom meeting

PBLWorld conference (PBLWorks)

Currently, US-based PBLWorks faculty are unable to travel to Australia. This may change in the near future, so we will need to make a decision to move from a face-to-face event to an online one closer to the dates. The online format was a huge success for PBLSydney Online 6-8 October 2020.

PBLWorld (PBLWorks annual conference) is one of the premier educational conferences held annually in the USA. The 2020 event was delivered online and was also a huge success. 1200 delegates usually attend the annual conference in person. This year, 2020, as an online event, in excess of 1000 delegates participated. Feedback was that the whole experience exceeded expectations and most felt it was a superior experience. (See testimonials here)

PBLWorks are adept in delivering these courses online and the facilitators we have been allocated are experienced in this format. These are the same facilitators that traveled to lead our January 2020 event in Kingscliff, NSW who also received amazing feedback from participants.

Each facilitator has a dedicated Zoom Technical Assistance professional allocated to their group. Over 3 consecutive days, participants will use Zoom to connect with the facilitator and each other. The workshop includes whole group work, learning circles to build connection and community, small group activities, reflection and critique, and individual learning (with some voice and choice) — as well as a number of built-in break times.

Each day is 6 hours of workshop time and a 1-hour lunch break.

The collective group of all attendees views the keynote speakers each day via Zoom Webinar.

We will be offering all the same workshops as PBLWorld (with the exception of PBL Coaching), along with world-class keynotes and all delivered in Australian Eastern Standard Time.

Effectively, this is PBLWorld in Australia, possibly, as an online event.
